- rio’s favela resistance. this cartoon highlights rio de janeiro’s handling of the 2016 olympic games and the unleashing of a brutal wave of violence involving the infamous grey-clad anti-slum BOPA police units against favela residents, continuing even now behind the olympic facade with summary killings and mass bulldozing and burning of dwellings. despite this, rio’s favela residents vow to stand strong in resistance long after the olympic circus has left town.
