watch: insane helicopter landing on ship in north atlantic storm

I don’t really get seasick, or any kind of motion sickness for that matter, but then again I’ve never landed a helicopter on the back of a heavily rolling ship in a North Atlantic storm. Related Book: The Finest Hours: The True Story of the Most Daring Sea Rescue by Michael J. Tougias

The incredible landing was filmed by the Royal Danish Air Force while testing a new Sikorsky SH-60 Seahawk helicopter it recently bought from the U.S. Navy. According to the Danish Air Force, the landing took place aboard a Thetis-class patrol vessel during a moderate gale in the North Atlantic near the Faroe Islands.

Now I don’t know if it was the Air Forces’ intention to test the seasickness of the Danish and Australian pilots, but if it was those guys definitely passed with flying colors.

This video has gone viral since it was posted November 22, earning nearly 1 million views on Facebook.

The helicopter in the video is one of the three the Danish Air Force took delivery of this past June. A total of nine of the helicopters, which are built by Lockheed Martin, are scheduled to be delivered to Denmark through 2018. In addition to anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare, the SH-60 Seahawks are also made for search and rescue, troop transport, medical evacuation, ship-to-ship replenishment, and humanitarian relief operations.
