One of the hardest hit areas was Kaohsiung City, where the storm toppled containers and caused a number of ships to break free at the local port.
Some amazing footage shows one of those ships, a giant containership in fact, appear to break free from its moorings and drift across the harbor.
The vessel in the video is the YM Wind, a 14,000 teu is under construction at CSBC Corporation for Seaspan.
Photos posted online seem to confirm the vessel and show the damage after the ship struck shoreside cranes.
YM Wind is one of the nine 14,000 teu, 368 meter ‘Saver’ ships ordered from CBSC. The vessel is actually final ship in the series and is due for delivery in 2017.
